Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones couldn't quite keep it together when he made his retirement announcement Thursday.

"I've been thinking about retiring for quite some time," Jones said as he fought back tears. "And I probably have to say the number one reason that I didn't was because of [my teammates]. It's been a pleasure to come to work and play with you guys."

Jones cited family reasons as the main reason for his retirement.

"I've got four little boys at home who have had a part-time father for a long time," Jones said. "They've sacrificed a lot, and I think it's time that I start paying them back as a fulltime father."
