Atlanta Braves reliever Arodys Vizcaino managed to avoid Tommy John surgery for a partially torn tendon in his elbow in 2010, but he has an appointment on Monday with one of the most dreaded and feared men in all of baseball, Dr. James Andrews.
Vizcaino has not thrown since feeling discomfort in his elbow in the Braves' Grapefruit League opener on March 3. An MRI revealed inflammation, and the club is calling it ulnar neuritis for the time being. Andrews' task will be to determine if the ailment is serious enough for the dreaded Tommy John surgery.
In 2010, Vizcaino only had to sit out a few months with a partially torn UCL.
