An old, familiar face to Atlanta Braves fans has been walking around Lake Buena Vista, Fla., the home of the Braves' Spring Training complex. It belongs to Javy Lopez, and he is working for the club as an instructor.
It may have been eight years since Lopez played behind the plate for the Braves, but Lopez still has plenty of baseball left in him.
"Every year, this is like home," Lopez said. "It is fun to be around the players, hang out with them and try to bring back the memories. It's always good to be here."
Lopez will be spending a week in camp with the Braves as a special instructor, which could help him land a coaching job down the road.
"At some point, I will get into coaching," Lopez said. "It's what I know."
Lopez, a three-time All-Star during his 12-year career, hit .287 with 214 home runs. He won the Silver Slugger Award in 2003, when he hit .328 with 43 homers and 109 RBIs.
