Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann is expected to start a rehab stint with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. The All-Star starter is expected to start either two or three games before being activated from the disabled list.
McCann has been out since July 26 with a strained left oblique. He may be able to return in time for the series opener Monday against the San Francisco Giants.
Tommy Hanson was also diagnosed with tendonitis in his throwing shoulder, but an MRI revealed no structural damage.
Hanson received his second cortisone shot in a two-month span to ease his discomfort. He is coming off one of his worst performances of the season last Saturday, when he gave up seven runs on four home runs to the New York Mets.
Fredi Gonzalez is still hopeful that Hanson can start Tuesday against the Giants on nine days rest.
