The Atlanta Braves placed outfielder Nate McLouth on the 15-day disabled list Friday, citing a lower abdominal strain.

McLouth apparently suffered the strained on a throw during the fifth inning of Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. McLouth's throw hit the cutoff man near the mound as the center fielder was able to successfully hold Garrett Jones on third base.

The Braves called up Jose Constanza from Triple-A Gwinnett to take his place. The 27-year-old has spent seven years in the minor leagues and has amassed over 3,000 minor league at-bats. He had hit .312 with 23 stolen bases in 86 games with Gwinnett this year.

To make room for Constanza on the 40-man roster, Atlanta designated Diory Hernandez for assignment.
