Chipper Jones will continue pinch-hitting duties for the next few days as he nurses a strained right quadriceps.

Jones, who strained the quadriceps his first game back after arthroscopic knee surgery, will miss his own bobblehead night Thursday.

The Atlanta Braves also called up Anthony Varvaro from Triple-A Gwinnett to give the bullpen a much need breather. Atlanta has played 29 innings over the past two games, and manager Fredi Gonzalez said he would like to give Scott Linebrink and Jonny Venters a rest.

Varvaro was 2-6 with a 2.66 ERA in 50 2/3 innings for Gwinnett and has the ability to chew up multiple innings for the Braves.

To make room for Varvaro, the Braves optioned Wilkin Ramirez to Gwinnett, leaving them with only the injured Jones, backup catcher J.C. Boscan, Julio Lugo and Brooks Conrad on the bench.
